Enjoy the fruits of good health!
The aronia berry is a super fruit, containing more antioxidants than blueberries, cranberries, elderberries, and raspberries! Numerous studies have linked aronia berries to potential health benefits such as helping to fight cardiovascular disease, normalizing blood pressure, diabetes prevention & help, urinary tract health, weight control, anti-carcinogenic effect, and many more. Why are aronia berries so beneficial? They contain a high level of polyphenols, which are micronutrients with antioxidant activity found in various plant foods. Within the polyphenol family, flavonoids are of particular interest as they have both antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Aronia berries contain an extremely high concentration of a certain flavonoids called anthocyanin, having 1,480mg of anthocyanin per 100g of fresh aronia fruit. The black aronia species (Aronia melanocarpa) contains higher levels of anthocyanin than purple or red aronia.
Since plants product anthocyanins as a protective mechanism in response to environmental stressors, our aronia berries are grown in the harshest conditions and are kept at sub-zero temperatures for half of the year. Made according to the standards of General Principles of Food Hygiene including HACCP, with no added water, sugar, additives or preservatives, naturally gluten & lactose-free, our products are minimally processed using a cold-pressing technique that protects nutrients, and stored in double insulated glass amber bottle to prevent UV degradation of nutrients. Powerful antioxidant capacity of pure and natural 100% cold-pressed Siberian Aronia Berry juice Aronia Treasure is ORAC6 20,600+ μmolTE per serving size (50ml). Aronia Treasure was measured for its ORAC value by the Brunswick Laboratories, Boston, Massachusetts. We recommend adding aronia to your favorite juice or smoothie. It will make for a delicious and powerful antioxidant boost! Aronia Treasure will boost your health and may help in addressing and preventing many common ailments that have become increasingly prevalent in our modern world.

"Anthocyanins are common ingredients of human diet, and the rich source of them are: aronia fruits, black currant, raspberry, grapes and apples. Because of their chemical structure they are able to influence many active substances in human body having antioxidative, antiinflammatory and cardioprotective activity."
"Fruits of Aronia melanocarpa (chokeberry) are known to be a reach source of polyphenols. Moreover, its extracts were shown to express strong antioxidant, antiinflammatory, vasorelaxant and antithrombotic properties."
BLOOD CIRCULATION & BLOOD VESSEL
Aronia berries are commonly known to enhance the blood circulation, make blood vessels more robust and lower the potential risk of cardiovascular disease. Free-radicals are known to be the main reason for numerous illnesses and Aronia berries can easily avoid their development, hence preventing diseases like diabetes, along with heart diseases. Aronia fruits contain a large amount of phenols, which disinfect the bloodstream and the body, promotes healing of wounds, removing toxic substances from the body, reduce inflammation, improves elasticity of blood vessels and prevent their clogging.
"Conclusion: In view of the fact that chokeberry flavonoids reduce the severity of inflammation, regardless of statins, they can be used clinically for secondary prevention of ischaemic heart disease."
BALANCE BLOOD PRESSURE LEVELS
Aronia assists significantly in keeping blood pressure level at normal levels. The darkish pigmented berries have already been recognized to avoid spasms within the blood vessels, maintaining the blood pressure far from the “danger zone”. The aronia juice is extremely recommended to people having issues with the high blood pressure level.
The animal-modeled study concludes "The blood pressure-lowering properties of lyophilized chokeberry juice and polyphenols were monitored using in vitro angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibition measurement and a 10 day in vivo study with spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR)... It was concluded that both chokeberry juice and polyphenols had blood pressure-lowering effects."
"Various epidemiological studies have shown an inverse association between the consumption of polyphenols or polyphenol-rich foods and the risk of cardiovascular diseases. The purpose of the study was to emphasize the effects of the polyphenolic extract from the isolated and purified vegetable material represented by the mature fruit of the Aronia melanocarpa on biochemical parameters and histopatological modifications."
The positive effect of the black colored berries in fighting cancer is a well known. A survey conducted in 2003 demonstrated that the berry supplied an all-natural defense to battle against colon cancer. An article, “Darker fruits could fight cancer”, written by the researchers at Ohio State University describes that darker fruits and berries could possibly combat cancer. The aronia berry (chokeberry) is specifically mentioned within the article, “(A)nthocyanin pigments from black carrots and radishes slowed the development of cancer cells by in between 50 to 80%. But compounds from chokeberries for example killed up to fifth of existing cells. Without impacting upon healthy ones.”
"Anthocyanin-rich extracts, potent antioxidants and commercially available food coloring agents, have been reported to inhibit growth of various cancer cell lines. We investigated the effect of semipurified anthocyanin-rich extract from fruits of Aronia meloncarpa, on normal colon and colon cancer cell lines."
"The aim of this study was to investigate the bioavailability of anthocyanins from chokeberry juice with a dietary-relevant dose of anthocyanins."

It combats bacteria and viruses and enhances the immune system. A Bulgarian research (Study of the natural Aronia Melanocarpa juice for anti-viral activity, Borissova et al, 1994) demonstrated that aronia berry juice, because of its anthocyane flavonoids, had an anti-inflammatory value, whenever swelling was caused by histamine or serotonin.
"These findings may provide new insights into understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying the beneficial effects of A. melanocarpa fruits on endothelial cells and imply that these berries or other products rich in anthocyanidins may have therapeutic potential in the prevention of atherosclerosis and other pathological events involving leucocyte adhesion."
"Natural Aronia melanocarpa fruit juice is rich in polyphenols most of which are anthocyanins. These compounds and other natural plant products are recently evaluated for their anti-infectious activity."
DIABETES PREVENTION & HELP
There has been numerous researches examining the effect of aronia berries on individuals with diabetes. Aronia can be quite therapeutic for individuals trying to avoid diabetes, however, it can also assist individuals to better manage diabetes and other associated problems.
A study (Simeonov et al, 2002) conducted in the Medical University in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, discovered that aronia juice without sugar added (artificially sweetened) was “a valuable adjunct” to dealing with patients with diabetes. An animal patterned research in 2007 (Valcheva-Kuzmanova S et al), conducted by the Department of Preclinical Pharmacology and Biochemistry, Medical University, Varna, Bulgaria was conducted on diabetic rats. The end result demonstrated that the usage of Aronia melanocarpa fruit juice may be beneficial in reduction as well as management of diabetes difficulties.
"The low calorie juice Aronia melanocarpa (sugar free, with artificial sweeteners) could be a valuable adjunct to the complex therapy of patients with diabetes mellitus. In this study no increased blood glucose levels were established 60 min. following ingestion of 200 ml Aronia juice."
"Aronia melanocarpa fruit juice significantly decreased the streptozotocin-induced abnormalities in blood glucose and TG in diabetic rats and might be useful in prevention and control of diabetes mellitus and diabetes-associated complications."
URINARY TRACT HEALTH
Urinary tract infections (UTIs) occur to huge numbers of people throughout the world. The primary causal agent is Escherichia coli and symptoms consist of repeated feeling and/or really need to urinate, discomfort while urinating, and also cloudy urine. It is well-known that cranberries are great in the combat with UTI, yet research has shown that aronia berries usually are 5 to 10 times more efficient, due to the greater dosage of quinic acid inside them, that is shown to avoid urinary infections.
Extra lab research demonstrated that Aronia Melanocarpa is beneficial in cutting micro-organism growth for many bacteria which includes Escherichia coli, therefore showing aronia berries assist in preventing and also treat UTI and maintain excellent urinary tract health.
"Urinary tract infection (UTI) is a major problem in nursing homes, and the mainstay of treatment is antibiotics. The increasing prevalence of uropathogens resistant to antimicrobial agents has stimulated interest in specific nutrients, for example, cranberries, to prevent recurring UTI. Black chokeberry (Aronia melanocarpa) is a rich source of phenolics, and thus, dietary intake of black chokeberry juice may reduce the incidences of UTI requiring medical treatment."
Aronia berries assist in controlling body weight. Additionally, Aronia might help avoid the body from storing fat around the abdomen, an issue which so many people are continuously dealing with.
"In the present study, the effects of anthocyanin-rich phytochemicals from aronia fruits (aronia phytochemicals) on visceral fat accumulation and fasting hyperglycemia were examined in rats fed a high-fat diet."
"The aim of our study was to investigate possible beneficial effects of organic chokeberry juice (OCJ) consumption in the treatment of cellulite."
The aronia have been shown to assist treating stomach problems which includes gastric ulcers, diarrhea. That theory have been reviewed by an animal research in 2004, that demonstrated that the aronia berry’s antioxidant effects has a gastro protective effect whenever dealing with the acute gastric hemorrhagic lesion in rats. This research recommended to scientists that it may be a natural effective remedy for stomach problems in humans (including ulcers). Showing once again to be incredibly beneficial fruit, dried Aronia is a superb medication for kidney and stomach problems.
"It has been reported that the fruits and leaves of berries such as the blackberry, raspberry, and strawberry contain a high level of scavenging activity for chemically generated active oxygen species. This study investigated the antioxidative activities of black chokeberry fruit (Aronia melanocarpa Elliot) both in vitro and in vivo using the DPPH stable radical and rats with ethanol-induced gastric injury, respectively."
Aronia berries may be useful in stopping harm to your liver. An animal-modeled study demonstrated that treatment along with aronia berry extracts decreased toxicity within the kidneys and liver brought on by cadmium, and in addition assisted avoid a procedure leading to cell death brought on by carbon tetrachloride.
"The fruits of Aronia melanocarpa are rich in anthocyanins - plant pigments with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity. We studied the effect of the natural fruit juice from A. melanocarpa (NFJAM) on carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)-induced acute liver damage in rats."
"Chokeberry is a rich source of procyanidins known to have several types of biological activity including anticarcinogenic potential in experimental models. In this study we examined the effect of chokeberry juice on the hepatic and mammary gland carcinogen metabolizing enzyme expression altered by the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon, 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene (DMBA)."
"Chokeberry is a rich source of polyphenols, which may counteract the action of chemical carcinogens. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of chokeberry juice alone or in combination with N-nitrosodiethylamine (NDEA) on phase I and phase II enzymes and DNA damage in rat liver."
Aronia berries, of all other healthy advantages, offer excellent safety for the eyes. The super berries contain a great deal of carotene, which safeguards cells from damage as well as the eyes from cataract formation. Also, they are abundant with flavonoid anti-oxidants just like luteins and zeaxanthins. Zeaxanthin has got photo-filtering effects on UV rays and therefore safeguards eyes from age-related macular disease within the elderly (ARMD) and eye inflammation (uveitis). Scientists in Japan have already been calculating the end results of aronia crude extract (ACE) on eye inflammation. The research was released in Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science some years ago.
"The results suggest that ACE has a dose-dependent anti–ocular inflammatory effect that is due to the direct blocking of the expression of the iNOS and COX-2 enzymes and leads to the suppression of the production of NO, PGE2, and TNF-α."

USDA-NRCS Aronia Melanocarpa Plant Guide
A member of the Rose family, black chokeberry is a deciduous shrub which can grow to a height of 3 to 6 feet tall. The fine-toothed leaves are medium green and hairless, with raised glands along the top of the midrib. In spring, the white bisexual flowers form clusters that are 2 to 2 1⁄2 inches across. The primary pollinators are small bees. As the seasons progress, the trees turn a deep glossy green. In mid to late summer the fruit begins to form. As the pea-sized fruit ripens, it darkens to a purplish-black color. The fruit are pomes which will begin to drop from the plants shortly after ripening. The fruits are quite juicy, but will begin to shrivel up after ripening. The juice and seeds are deep purple in color. There are 1 to 5 small seeds per pome.

Sabine E. Kulling, Harshadai M. Rawel
Department of Food Chemistry, Institute of Nutritional Science, University of Potsdam, Nuthetal (OT Bergholz-Rehbrücke), Germany
In conclusion, chokeberry (Aronia melanocarpa), a lesser known berry fruit, is one of the richest plant sources of highly interesting phenolic phytochemicals including procyanidins and anthocyanins. The high content as well as the pattern of the phenolic constituents seems to be responsible for the wide range of its potential medicinal and therapeutic effects. Further studies are needed to understand the beneficial effects reported so far also from the mechanistic point of view. However, it seems desirable that the spread and popularity of Aronia food products in the future will increase and expand consumers' choice for healthy berry fruits.
